Background Dr Debasish Saha is based in Basse, where he is working on a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded multi-centre project being conducted at different African and Asian countries to assess the disease burden due to enteric pathogens causing diarrhea in children under five, the economic impact of the disease and health care perception towards this disease. The project also aims to convincingly propose the development of vaccines against indicated major enteric pathogens in Africa and Asia.
Dr Saha’s previous appointment was with the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) as an Assistant Scientist. His main area of research was clinical trials looking at the efficacy of newer drugs against cholera and shigellosis, to identify the emergence of resistance and their mechanism. He also served as Medical Officer at the paediatric unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital at Bangladesh.
Dr Saha earned his Master of Science (MS) in Epidemiology, specializing in infectious disease epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. He now aims to focus on the epidemiology of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases along with the treatment and the emergence of resistance to pathogens.
