The Viral Diseases Programme focuses its research on gaining a better understanding of how viruses of major public health importance in The Gambia interact with their human hosts. Through studying how these viruses cause disease, and how the human immune system responds to virus infection, we hope to contribute to better treatment and vaccination strategies. The Programme combines basic laboratory virology and viral immunology with clinical and epidemiological research, together with translational research studies looking at how best to implement the results of research in the community. The main areas of research in the Viral Diseases Programme are: - Hepatitis B Virus
- Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV-1 and HIV-2)
- Infant Immunology
- Chlamydia
- Measles
