From University in India in 1996, Dembo had brief spells of work within the Government of the Gambia, working in the Ministries of Education and Local Government and lands. Outside of Government he worked with the International NGO ActionAid the Gambia, providing capacity building support to local partner organisations of ActionAid. He joined the MRC in 1999 as a Trainee Administrative Manager.
The Unit provided him with the necessary training in management leading to an MBA and more specialised training in Project Management leading to the PRINCE2 Practitioner Certificate.
During his time in the Unit he has worked within the administrative set up in a variety of roles, in all the field stations, as well as within the scientific programmes providing administrative and managerial support to scientists.
