BACKGROUND
- Over twenty years of progressively senior-level work experience in a leading research institution in Africa.
- Nineteen years of active research experience on Tropical and Infectious Diseases, with special interest in Tuberculosis (early diagnosis; diagnosis of TB in difficult situations, such as in patients with HIV and low CD4 counts; shortening the duration of treatment for TB). Also interest in HIV and Malaria.
- Strong links with governmental and non-governmental organisations in Africa and throughout the world.
- Expertise in capacity building, including the establishment of ‘north-south’ collaborations; strong links with several institutions of higher learning in Africa.
Studies of TB in The Gambia
- The geographical distribution of sensitivity of skin test antigens in The Gambia;
- A trial of the effects of prior vaccination with BCG and of immunotherapy with Mycobacterium vaccae on the outcome of treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis.
