Bakary joined MRC Unit the Gambia at LSHTM in 2007 as a Senior Laboratory Technician in the Nutrition Theme after his studies at the Kenya Medical Training College. He was responsible for Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) processing, intracellular staining and flow cytometry.
In 2012, Bakary relocated to Keneba Field Station as the Principal Laboratory Technician and Lead Technician on the Early Nutrition and Immune Development (ENID Study) – Lewis Grant. Bakary returned to Fajara Main Site in 2017, working under the Immunology platform as a Principal Laboratory Technician and Supervisor of the Platt Lab.
Bakary is trained in flow cytometry and cell culture from Stanford and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
At the MRC Festival, Bakary will present on the topic nutrients and their sources. He will also discuss our body’s need for different nutrients to stay healthy and function properly.
Apart from breast milk, no single food contains all the nutrients our body needs. Our diet should contain a variety of different foods every day to keep us healthy. He will talk about the importance of a healthy and balance diet.
