The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at LSHTM, in collaboration with the World Health Organization will host Bacteriology And External Quality Assurance Program (EQAP) Surveillance And Laboratory Training Workshop in The Gambia, from 28th October to 1st November 2019.
The training will convene staff from the IB-VPD network laboratories that are supported by the WHO Collaborating Centre for New Vaccines Surveillance hosted at the MRCG at LSHTM. The training will strengthen and upgrade the capacity of these laboratories to provide rapid, timely and reliable results for programme use. There are evolving needs to also build capacities globally for other bacterial vaccine preventable diseases such as Diphtheria, Pertussis and Typhoid.
The expected outcome of this workshop is to establish a formal coordinated approach to strengthen bacterial VPD surveillance, AMR and increase diagnosis capacities in addition to enhancing participants knowledge on quality assurance systems and to update in the fields of diagnostics and AMR for vaccine preventable bacterial infections, Typhoid and Diphtheria in particular.
The training will be a combination of lectures, presentations and practical sessions, and will be held at the Ocean Bay Hotel and the MRCG at LSHTM labs in Fajara.
