The visit of the Chief Operating Officer, Dr Matt Lee from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to strengthen the long existing partnership between the two institutions ended on Tuesday 14 March 2017.
LSHTM is one of the highest-rated research institutions in the UK, working towards strengthening partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
The long existing partnership between the two institutions dates back to the 90’s. This partnership has made it possible for MRCG to enrol PhD and MSC students’ annually on a course with LSHTM. In the past, we had 14 students enrolled with LSHTM, and currently, The Unit has eight PhDs and six MSc students with several staff and past students affiliated with LSHTM.
Dr Lee’s visit was timely, as it was an opportunity to meet key members of The Unit and LSHTM associates, who were very keen to discuss future collaborative opportunities. His visit also coincided with The Unit’s Annual Operations retreat, which is a forum to celebrate successes, provide key messages, have a team building experience and network with staff from other departments.
Dr Lee was given a tour of our facilities including our laboratories and Clinical Services of which he was impressed. He also visited our Field Station in Keneba, where he also met current/past students and associates of LSHTM.
